As someone who is always trying to simplify and organize, my home is constantly a priority for improvement. I believe the bedroom is one of the most important rooms in a home. It's where you have the potential to create a serene, romantic environment for you and your spouse. This will help you sleep better, provide stress relief, and even promote a better sex life. Here's how to make it happen.
Your bedroom should not be full of stuff. This is probably the most important tip because clutter is mentally draining. You want your bedroom to be a clean, organized space. If you want to feel peace and calm, a minimalist approach is always best. The more items in the room, the more work for you. This is not a place for kid's toys, too much furniture, and every inch of wall space to be covered. Strive to get rid of anything that doesn't make you feel at peace.
Lighting is a great way to set a romantic mood. In my bedroom, I have a pink Himalayan salt lamp, candles, and string lights on the wall above the bed. On the nightstands there are small tap lamps that are always on the dimmest setting. Not having bright lights on at night tells your body it's time to get ready for sleep.
As I just mentioned, candles are a great way to create the atmosphere we're looking for. Be cognizant of the scents you bring into the bedroom. Strong air fresheners made with harmful chemicals are disruptive to these goals. Instead, seek out natural scents by diffusing essential oils and burning soy or beeswax candles. You can also place a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and place them where you'll be able to smell them. Smell can be an overlooked sense, but it has a big impact on how we feel!
A comfortable bed, sheets, pillows, and comforter will definitely aid you in sleep. Investing in a good quality mattress and bedding is absolutely worth it. Having a fan on at night so you don't get overheated is also a good idea. When you're comfortable, you're more open to intimacy and you'll have an easier time falling asleep.
I know this one might be controversial, but having a TV in the bedroom will not promote healthy sleep and is a distraction from your relationship. I believe each room has a specific purpose. The bedroom's purpose is for sleep, sex, and stress relief. Darkness and quiet provide the best environment for sleep. I haven't had a TV in my bedroom for years and I don't plan to ever again. Another tip I've learned is to not have pictures of other family members in the bedroom. Family photos are great for displaying in main areas of the house, but be more selective in your bedroom. Choose artwork that inspires. Pictures of twos are great and if you want photos, pick some of your favorite shots of you as a couple. I recently found a large picture to place above my bed called "Cosmic Love" from Urban Outfitters. It's of a couple who looks similar to me and my husband with the moon behind them. I absolutely love it because when I look at it, I feel peaceful and romantic. I'd encourage you to find something that makes you feel that way too!
My hope is this will inspire you to customize these tips in your own bedroom. If you're not already following them, it might be time for a bedroom makeover. This could be a fun way to work on a project with your spouse to create the romantic sanctuary you both want.
